Introduction of The Last Domain Expert Candidate in The First Round— Ben Goertzel

The first round of “Domain Expert Election Month” released by the EpiK Protocol Foundation will be officially ended today.

EpiK Protocol has successively won the favor of 6 experts in different domains:

Aken, an Emotion AI expert;

Becky, a financial knowledge graph expert;

Professor Wu, a finance and artificial intelligence expert;

Andy, a smart transportation and smart IoT expert;

Yu Hongyuan, a Multi-Modal Machine Learning expert;

And EpiK Protocol will introduce the last domain expert candidate in the first round, Ben Goertzel, a smart healthcare expert to EPKers this time.

Ben Goertzel has many years of business experience in artificial intelligence and is the Founder and CEO of SingularityNET, Chairman of the OpenCog Foundation, Chief Scientist of Hanson Robotics, President of the American Society for General Artificial Intelligence, Chief Scientist of Mercury Health and Vice President of Humanity+, the world’s superhuman association. He is recognized worldwide as a leading AI expert and thinker, a software engineer and a serial entrepreneur who is leading the way in innovation in AI technology and blockchain.

He is also active in diverse areas of AI, including bioinformatics (lead AI advisor at Mozi Health), finance, national security, natural language processing, etc. Dr. Goertzel has published 150 scientific papers in AI and over 15 scientific books.

Dr. Goertzel also led Hanson Robotics in 2016 to create Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen, and in October 2017, Sophia “became” a citizen of Saudi Arabia, the first robot to receive citizenship of a country. In November 2017, Sophia was named the first-ever Innovation Champion by the United Nations Development Programme and the first non-human to receive UN designation.

After becoming a domain expert, Dr. Goertzel will collaborate with EpiK Protocol on healthcare knowledge graph architecture and AI big data construction to promote the development of decentralized AI and new digital economy, as well as provide guidance on building the EpiK AGI knowledge graph for the improvement and development of the AI domain knowledge graph.

In Dr. Goertzel’s eyes, the risk of AI is not as scary as Musk’s perception of “hijacking humanity,” but the real risk is the over-centralization. Dr. Goertzel observes that our most advanced AI technologies are in the hands of large corporations to maximize profits.

Historically, this has led to a disproportionate concentration of AI applications in areas such as marketing, sales, finance and economic speculation, rather than more for humanitarian applications. He fears that if this trend continues, the deployment of advanced AI could become more narrowly focused on achieving corporate interests, which would likely hinder human prosperity and spark crises and conflict.

In an interview in December 2020, Dr. Goertzel said that the future of AI lies in “decentralization”. He “hopes that one day it will be possible to provide most AI services through the blockchain, so that access to advanced AI can be democratized and prevent any government or corporate monopoly on control of AI systems.” Dr. Goertzel has successfully developed a decentralized AI product. She is Sophia’s sister — Grace.

Unlike Sophia, Grace is a strong AI domain helper focused on healthcare. She is built on a well-developed knowledge graph network, which gives her sound recognition and judgment capability, and this is extremely important. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, she serves as a health care assistant in high-end medical departments.

According to Ben, “AI is designed to help humans work and live more efficiently, but unfortunately, Sophia is not yet mass-produced and cannot really come into people’s lives, so it is still in the concept stage. But the emergence of Grace, with its lower cost due to mature technology, which is low enough to be placed within high-end medical departments, is a big step forward for AGI.” EpiK Protocol will team up with SingularityNET to build a more powerful and enriched medical knowledge graph system. Combining EpiK Protocol’s platform construction technology (such as the “Health Chain” project with Tsinghua University) and singularityNET’s complete AI knowledge graph system, it will empower AGI to create a more anthropomorphic department assistant.

So how does Grace, which makes Dr. Goertzel proud, achieve what he sees as “decentralized AI”?

First is the deployment network. Grace is built on a well-established knowledge graph network, and her knowledge graph network is deployed on the distributed network blockchain/EpiK Protocol. This distributed “AI data storage system” can fully mobilize each of its idle storage devices. Storing data in the EpiK Protocol “AI data storage system” is free and has no time limit, with unlimited number of copies by default, no need to specify a certain node, and an average sector size of only 8M. The “AI data storage system” requires a lower threshold for storage devices and is easier to participate in. And the use requires authorization, which protects data security while protecting data privacy. As an AI robot that fills the gap in the healthcare industry, Grace’s access to patient data privacy is of particular interest to the elderly and patient data privacy protection.

Second is the data source. In order to ensure that Grace has the ability to identify and make accurate judgments about illnesses and patient states, she needs a large amount of diverse and valid data to train herself and improve her “knowledge graph”. And the source of this data is Knowledge Mainland. It is owned by EpiK Protocol, which is an original “AI data annotation system”. With this app, everyone can become an AI teacher, regardless of language, race and geographical differences.

Plus, you don’t have to worry about the quality of the data affecting Grace’s judgment. This is because in the Knowledge Mainland, there are domain experts in various industries who are strict gatekeepers, so invalid data and “dirty data” cannot flow into Grace’s database. To make the work of data annotators more interesting, EpiK Protocol presents this part of the data collection in the form of game passes, which lowers the threshold of participation and enhances the player experience at the same time. In Knowledge Mainland, Grace can obtain facial data, knowledge data of medical subfields, and so forth. With the help of “teachers” from all over the world, she will grow up quickly and save more lives in the medical field.
